Conditions Mr Vithlani treats
Everything ears, hearing and balance — from a blocked ear to a cochlear implant — plus the throat and airway problems that keep children awake at night. Each condition explains what you may notice, how it is investigated and how it is treated.
Conditions
Ears & hearing
Most ear problems have a treatable cause. These are the ones seen most often in clinic.
Sudden, gradual or in one ear — assessed with a full hearing test, examination under the microscope and imaging where needed.
About this condition
A hearing loss over hours or days is urgent. Early steroid treatment gives the best chance of recovery.
About this condition
Recurrent otitis media, chronic infection, eczema of the ear canal and cholesteatoma.
About this condition
Holes from infection, injury or pressure change that may heal alone or need repair (tympanoplasty).
About this condition
Wax removed safely under the microscope by microsuction, with the ear checked at the same visit.
About this condition
Stiffening of the stapes bone causing gradual hearing loss, treatable with a hearing aid or stapedotomy.
About this condition
Conditions
Balance, tinnitus & facial nerve
Ringing, buzzing or hissing — ruling out the treatable causes and managing the sound.
About this condition
Vertigo, BPPV, Ménière’s disease and other inner-ear balance disorders.
About this condition
Bell’s palsy and facial nerve problems linked to the ear, assessed in a dedicated facial nerve clinic.

Conditions
Children
Fluid behind the ear drum causing muffled hearing, usually after colds. Watchful waiting, then grommets if it persists.
About this condition
Recurrent sore throats that keep a child off school; when tonsillectomy is the right step.
About this condition
Loud snoring, pauses in breathing and restless sleep, often from large tonsils and adenoids.
About this condition
Hearing that is not developing as expected, from glue ear to permanent loss needing a hearing implant.
About this condition
Not sure what is causing it?
Start with the symptom, not the diagnosis
A muffled ear, a ringing that will not stop, a child who snores: you do not need to know the name of the condition to book. The first appointment is about finding the cause.
- Full hearing test on the same day where needed
- Ears examined under the microscope
- A plain-English explanation and a written plan
Sudden hearing loss in one ear is urgent and is best assessed within 72 hours: call the clinic or NHS 111 the same day. Severe ear pain with a high temperature, a red or swollen area behind the ear, sudden facial weakness or a head injury: go to A&E or call 999.
